Boxing

During SATS week, the year 6 children had he opportunity to take part in boxing sessions! This was great for them to get outside, have fun and release any stress they may be feeling. All children really enjoyed it and they felt relaxed and energised for the next day!

Herts does The Daily Mile 2022

To celebrate Hertfordshire’s engagement with The Daily Mile, we have taken part in ‘Herts does The Daily Mile 2022’ campaign (week commencing 25th April). As part of the campaign Toby Garbett, an Olympic rower and triathlete  visited our school. He held an inspirational assembly for the children and then took each class outside to run the daily mile. Everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed running a mile with an Olympic athlete.

Boxing taster session

On Tuesday 19th April, some of our Year 5 and 6 children were given the opportunity to attend the ABC warriors boxing club. The children walked to the heights shops where Dan ( the boxing coach) was waiting. The children took part in a warm up and began to learn different  boxing techniques.

After their warm up, children we able to put on some gloves and have a go on the numerous punching bags. They also went into the ring with the coach to practise their punches.

All children had a fantastic time and many now have joined the after school boxing club, which is held in our school hall on Thursday after school.

Montell Douglas

Montell Douglas a British sportswoman visited George Street Primary School last week. She originally was a sprinter and former British record holder for the 100 metres at 11.05 seconds. Then,  in 2017 she took up bobsleigh, and became part of the Great Britain women's two-woman bobsleigh team the following year.

In the afternoon, she held an assembly for the children speaking about how she became an athlete and what barriers she has faced. Then each class, who had been sponsored by their families, took part in an Olympic athlete workout!

Overall, we raised £600 - well done George Street.

The school council have decided to spend the money on some new lunch time equipment.

Intra house dodgeball competition

The sports crew have been busy planning an intra house competition for years 1- 6. Each class will compete against each other, trying to earn their house some more house points.

Netball match George Street Vs St Barts

On Monday 21st February our Netball team played a home match against St Barts. Our team included Lilly, Hrisitina, Maddie, Bethany and Alegra along with Sophia, Lola, Alice and Lydia. Even though it was a tough match, George Street won 6-0 with 2 goals from Bethany (GS) and an amazing 4 from Maddie (GA)! Well done to everyone who played in the match.

Dodgeball Club

To get the children ready for the week, Year 5 and 6 children are invited to attend a dodgeball club on Monday morning at 8.15. This has been great for the children and each week more and more children are attending. It is a great way for children to feel ready for their week and have fun with their friends.

Finally, after a year of restrictions, George Street are able to play again in the football league. Due to the popularity of the club, we are able to enter two teams into the competition. This gives all players an opportunity to play competitively against other schools.

Keep updated here with upcoming fixtures, match reports and photos from the match.
