  • Coronavirus update

Wed 18 Mar 2020 Heather Freeman

Everyone is adjusting to the new requirements for whole families to self-isolate for 14 days if one member shows signs of a temperature or new persistent cough.  Thank you that we are all pulling together during this time.

Work is available on-line for all pupils who are staying at home.  For KS2 pupils, please see in Google Drive, for our younger children, work will be emailed to you.  Please complete this and then return for marking / assessment.  This will enable teachers to support in a more individual way should this be necessary.  Please email me,  head@georgestreet.herts.sch.uk if you have any queries.

Within school all classes are currently continuing with learning set by their teacher and being covered by a member of school staff or regular supply.  The children are coping very well and I am very proud of everyone.

As situations do change very quickly, I will update you as soon as I know anything.  Please DO NOT contact the office at this very busy time (they are short staffed), but again email me.

  • Latest Coronavirus Update

Sun 15 Mar 2020 Heather Freeman

We are closely watching the news, preparing and updating our contingency plans.

At present anyone with a temperature higher than 37.8 degrees centigrade or a new persistent cough must self-isolate for 7 days, meaning your child will be unable to attend school.  Please check the  government website https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-people-with-confirmed-or-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection for advice on how to self-isolate.

We will advise you when your child may return to school (assuming that they are no longer showing any symptoms).

Your class teacher will prepare work for your child (in line the rest of the class) and will liaise with you about how you will access this, etc.

Should the school have to be closed - work will be provided for pupils (from F2 upwards).  We are planning that this will be on-line using Google Drive, Purple Mash, Sumdog - all of which the children are familiar with (from Y1 upwards).  We will give you more information at the time, including how F2 parents can access suggested activities.

Updated travel advice for travellers returning from Italy

The advice remains the same for travellers returning from the lockdown areas of Italy, that you should self-isolate even if you are not showing symptoms. The advice for other parts of Italy has been expanded to cover the whole country: if you have returned from anywhere else in Italy outside of the lockdown areas, you should self-isolate if you develop symptoms and call NHS 111.

The latest travel guidance can be found here:

Further information on what you should do if you are asked to self-isolate can be found here:

    Statement for parents and carers

As you will be aware, there has been a lot of information in the news about

returning trips to Italy over half term in light of the recent measures put in place

by the Italian Authorities on Coronavirus.

We would like to assure you that there is no cause for concern, none of the

school trips run by Hertfordshire schools were within the ten towns which the

Italian Authorities have put on quarantine measures and Hertfordshire

    residents remain at low risk.

If you have returned from the quarantined towns and develop flu like

symptoms, please stay at home, avoid contact with other people and call

    NHS111.

Taking basic hygiene precautions remains the best way to reduce the chances

of spreading any virus: sneeze or cough into a tissue, bin it, wash your hands

frequently and don’t touch your face unless you’ve just washed your

hands. Using a normal detergent to clean the surfaces people touch regularly

like door handles and lift buttons is also sensible.

Please visit www.gov.uk/coronavirus for the most up to date advice.
