“Where Learning Comes Alive”

On behalf of the children, staff and governors of George Street Primary School, I would like to warmly welcome you to our school.

We believe that children make the greatest progress when they become fully engaged with their learning and therefore our school vision is ‘Where Learning Comes Alive’; every school day should be fun, imaginative and exciting with exceptional learning environments giving all of our children the best start to their lifetime of learning. We aim for our pupils to become independent, confident children who believe in their potential.

George Street is a one-form entry community primary school for children between the ages of three and eleven years, situated in the heart of Hemel Hempstead Old Town. It opened officially in November 1855 and is the oldest school in Hemel Hempstead. The school consists of seven classes and a nursery. The school’s admission number is thirty with each class being mixed ability. We are extremely fortunate to have spacious classrooms, lovely grounds and a number of facilities at George Street which are fully open for community access.

We have a Breakfast Club from 8.00 a.m. and a range of after-school clubs which offer a varied menu of activities which enhance achievement and broaden interests. We enjoy strong and positive relationships with a range of professionals, outside agencies and a number of organisations. These include local primary and secondary schools, Gade Schools Family Support and the Children’s Centre. This means we can offer the best possible range of services to our children and their families.

Friends of George Street, ‘F.O.G.S.S.’ is our PTA, which works hard to host a range of social and fund raising activities for children throughout the year.

If you are considering enrolling your child at George Street, please do feel free to make an appointment and I would be delighted to show you around. Should you ever wish to discuss any aspect of the school with me, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
